The general impression is that you have to spend a lot of money on props to create Halloween-themed content. However, this doesn't have to be the case. In this blog post, we'll give you some ideas on how to easily give your Halloween content a spooky feel.

1. Make an object come out of the ground

You see it in horror movies sometimes: zombies emerging from their graves. Super creepy, like walking through a cemetery and suddenly a hand appears. You can easily recreate this concept yourself!

What do you need?

  • Two tables/platforms of the same height (keep in mind that you must be able to sit underneath them)
  • Some (potting) soil (from outside)
  • Some dark paper/garbage bags
  • A Bluetooth remote .

How do you proceed?

  1. First, place the tables next to each other so that you can still fit between them. You can then use dark paper or garbage bags to make the surface unobtrusive and hang it as a backdrop. Once you've done this, place some ground on both tables.
  2. Position your camera level with the tables so you can't see the gap between them. The front table (as seen from your camera's perspective) can have a slightly higher layer of ground to enhance the "rising from the ground" effect. Check to what extent the layer of ground is visible from your camera's perspective.
  3. Once you're happy with the setup, sit on the floor between the tables. Insert your hand through the slot, making it appear as if your hand is emerging from the ground! Using the Bluetooth remote, you can actually take photos.

By following these steps, you can completely recreate the scene. You can also play with lighting or use a smoke machine for a scarier effect. Now your hand looks just like a zombie in a horror movie.

2. Create scary shadows

During Halloween, you can create many spooky effects with shadows. Because you can only see shapes, you can activate your viewers' imaginations by letting them imagine what the actual owner of the shapes is. By cleverly positioning your lamp and using good figures, you can create a cool effect across the image.

What do you need?

  • A lamp to put the central object in the spotlight
  • Something to create shadows (in our case, branches from outside)
  • A dark environment
  • (Possibly a Bluetooth remote)

How do you get started?

  1. First, place your camera and the object you want to photograph where you want. From a different angle, set up your light.
  2. Then, once everything is in place, hold the branches (or another object) in front of the light so that it's not visible in your camera shot. Ideally, a shadow will now appear on the object you're spotlighting. If you're alone and holding the shadow object yourself, you can take the photos remotely using a Bluetooth remote.

This idea might be a bit simpler, but it's certainly no less fun than the others. You have plenty of room to play with shadows: instead of outdoor twigs, you could also use clippings of bats or your hand. Let your imagination run wild.

3. Hand out of the wall

You sometimes see this in horror movies too: a zombie reaching through a wall or window to grab you. This is also easy to recreate and can create a gripping effect!

What do you need?

  • A very large sheet of paper to put your hand through
  • A Bluetooth remote.

How do you get started?

  1. First, position the camera.
  2. Then hang up the large sheet of paper, making sure there's enough room for you to stand behind it. Cut a small hole for your hand to fit through.
  3. Take a look at the camera to see if you can see the location of the hole.
  4. Once everything is set up correctly, stand behind the paper and push your hand through the hole. With your other hand, use the Bluetooth remote to take multiple photos. Now you've got some awesome shots of your hand coming through the wall.

We've just covered the basics, but in principle, there are many possibilities. For example, hold an object, ask a few friends to help you place multiple hands through the paper, or use green paper to enhance its color. Also, use light to highlight your hand(s).
