What is a teleprompter?

An autocue is a display onto which text is projected. The text is displayed in front of a camera or smartphone via a kind of mirror, without the camera registering this. This allows you to read a video script in the mirror and look straight into the lens, without this being visible to the camera or viewer. Autocues are available for both smartphones and cameras .

#1 Prepare your text yourself

It is important to write the text in your own words. This way your message comes across more naturally and it is easier to read the text. While preparing and writing the text, it is wise to read the text aloud. This way you can reformulate sentences and filter out difficult words.

It is of course also possible that the text was prepared by a colleague. It is important to then rewrite the text in your own words.

#2 Write colloquialisms

Since you read the text (partly) and this should appear as natural as possible, it is important to write the text in colloquial language. Write the text as if you were having a conversation. #3 Set the teleprompter text correctly

Before you start your recordings, it is wise to set the text yourself via an app or computer. For example, you can set the font size and playback speed yourself and ensure that the text is displayed according to your personal preference. This makes it easier to read the text.

With the Teleprompter app (App Store), the text is displayed on the phone you are filming with. This way you can film yourself via the selfie camera and read out your text at the same time.

It is useful to have control over the speed of the text. For example, you can slow down the text a bit if you make a mistake. You can use a foot pedal or a Bluetooth remote control for this. With a Bluetooth remote you can not only determine the tempo, but you can also scroll back the text or pause the text. #4 Practice, practice, practice!

#5 Watch your attitude and tone
