When comparing the specifications of the Osmo Action 5 Pro and the GoPro Hero 13, a few things stand out. The first thing that stands out is the resolution: the GoPro can film in a higher resolution than the DJI action camera. But apart from the resolution, there are few aspects in which the GoPro stands out above the Osmo Action 5 Pro. The Osmo Action can film for up to four hours. That is an hour and a half longer than the GoPro Hero 13 and an hour longer than the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. In addition, you can film up to 20 meters deep with the Osmo Action 5 Pro. With a waterproof housing of € 24.95, a GoPro can film up to 50 meters deep, so this is not a decisive difference. Finally, there is a big difference in storage capacity: the storage capacity of the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro can be expanded to 1 TB, while the GoPro Hero 13 is only expandable to 256 GB.

Features of the DJI Osmo Action Pro 5 compared to the GoPro Hero 13

Both action cameras have almost the same features. The action cameras cannot afford not to have certain features, while the competitor does have them. However, there are noticeable differences between the performance of the features. We will now highlight these.

Filming in low light

The DJI Osmo Action Pro 5 has a larger 1/1.3'' sensor compared to the 1/1.9'' sensor of the GoPro Hero 13. This allows the lens to capture more light. This ensures that you can record better in the dark. Where with other action cams it looks like a big dark haze, with the Osmo Action Pro 5 it will be a lot more detailed. So if you often want to record at night or go to places with little light, then the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is the better choice.

Hindsight

How often does it happen that you are filming or taking pictures and something really cool happens, you click on record, but unfortunately you are just too late? GoPro has solved this problem with the Hindsight function. This function ensures that the camera also saves the 15 or 30 seconds before you click on record. This way you never miss that cool moment. You only have to make sure that the camera is in the right direction. This function is unfortunately missing on the Osmo Action 5 Pro.

In addition, GoPro also offers scheduled recordings and an adjustable recording time. You can set from when to when the GoPro should film — ideal for timelapses, for example. The adjustable recording time is useful if you often forget to turn off your GoPro; this will turn it off automatically. This way, your storage is not full after two skiing descents and your battery is not empty. These functions are also missing on the Osmo Action 5 Pro.

Stabilization

Both action cameras feature electronic image stabilization. GoPro calls it HyperSmooth 6.0 with AutoBoost, and Osmo Action RockSteady 3.0+. GoPro's stabilization is clearly better, however: the footage is often considerably smoother than that of the Osmo Action.

Modifications

When it comes to accessories that you can buy for the action cameras, there is also a big difference. For the GoPro Hero 13, you can buy a macro lens, ultrawide lens, ND filters and an anamorphic lens. For the Osmo Action 5 Pro, there is a FOV Boost Lens and a microphone available that has been specially developed for this model.

Conclusion

When comparing the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro to the GoPro Hero 13, there is no clear winner. Both action cameras have aspects where they excel.
